It's Complicated
About Me:
Imagine 113,000 square feet of the finest hardwood courts, plexiglass backboards, team-rooms, saunas, fitness center and computer room, and you are now looking at a state-of-the-art, 10 court tournament style basketball, fitness and learning center. It’s hard to imagine given the empty shell that once stood in PG County not long ago.

Rodney P. Hunt, Washington area native, successful entrepreneur and philanthropist has invested more than $1million to re-open the old Run N’ Shoot Athletic Complex as a show of his community support. The center, now known as the Capital Sports Complex, opened in June. Hunt is the co-founder, President & CEO of RS Information Systems, a McLean, Va.-based Federal government IT services business 1600 employees, many of whom live and work in the DC area. The company was one of the largest minority-owned businesses in the region. Mr. Hunt is also the founder and President of Virginia Pride, and the founder and Chairman of the Rodney P. Hunt Family Foundation, both of which support youth development and sports. Mr. Hunt grew up in Fort Washington, Maryland, and is a graduate of Friendly High School. Capital Sports Complex (CSC) is the culmination of a dream for Mr. Hunt so he can help develop the local youth from the area he once grew up in.
The CSC includes two championship basketball courts complete with fixed bleachers, official scoreboards and team rooms, as well as eight separate adjacent courts. This allows for true championship games, special events and private workout areas for local professional athletes and visiting teams. It will offer court time, tournaments, and fitness memberships. Food, retail, and fitness under one roof. Sponsorship opportunities are available.

Other elements include:
- Computer learning/training area for the community
- Retail areas for food and apparel
- VIP Training Area with new weight, strength, and cardiovascular machines
- Massage Areas
- Sports Jacuzzis for strength, conditioning, and rehabilitation purposes
- Renovated bathrooms, saunas, aerobic rooms, and public workout facilities
- Party rooms for small movies, meetings, and entertainment functions
- Newly refurbished floors on ALL courts, including all new baskets and shot clock tables
- Running track
- All new equipment in the public weight room and training area
- Fully functional electronic security system (cameras, access door controls, security monitors) combined with indoor and outdoor security from both public local law enforcement and private security companies.
The Capital Sports Complex stands ready to annually host more than 50 events and tournaments, as well as over 15 leagues for men, women, and youth.

However, the venue is more than just basketball. Mr. Hunt and his development group have designed a center that can provide an outlet to the local youth in both sports and education. The themes are to promote team participation, personal dedication and individual challenges. The Capital Sports Complex is a natural continuation of commitment to the development of the next generation of leaders - our youth.

Rodney P. Hunt Family Foundation:
The Foundation is dedicated to providing funding and resources for: (a) the furtherance of youth sports for the benefit of inner city and disadvantaged children; (b) the promotion of educational pursuits at all levels of education, particularly for inner city and disadvantaged youth; (c) medical research with a particular emphasis on cancer and AIDS research; and (d) advancement of minority business owners and entrepreneurs. In keeping with its mission, the Foundation has provided large endowments to the Perry School (below).

Perry School:
Perry Center, Inc., located in DC, provides a continuum of services to develop and educate youth from ages 3 to 18; the purpose is to ensure productive local citizens by helping early. After-school and summer camp programs for youth ages 6 to 13 feature computer learning, art, addiction prevention, mentoring, recreation and field trips sponsored by Perry Center, Inc. and tutoring, conflict resolution and health provided by other organizations. The computer learning center has 30 modern stations with scanners, digital cameras and a wide variety of interactive software teaching basic to more sophisticated uses of computers. The art center teaches drawing, painting, composition and crafts. Addiction prevention encourages youth ages 11 to 13 to avoid all forms of addictive substances. For teens, the Visual and Literary Arts program teaches creative writing, article composition and magazine publishing, and the Art of Living program teaches murals, graphics and art as a business. The goal of youth development is to have all youth obtain a high school diploma, and preferably a college degree, or marketable skills in jobs paying above poverty wages.

Virginia Pride:
Virginia Pride provides tournament-style basketball for underprivileged local youths within the City of Alexandria. Athletics provides young people with an outlet to develop respect, discipline and team-work. The Pride offers a recreational sports program that is committed to and focused on the enhancement of athletic skills, academic excellence, personal integrity and the responsibility of community citizenship.
